Re: Sensiject® Feedback Syringe
I am a practicing hematologist-oncologist at NYU Medical Center. We use syringes in our daily practice both during procedures such as bone marrow biopsies as well as during administration of various intravenous medications including chemotherapy drugs. With that in mind, I believe the new Sensiject® feedback syringe promises to be a great advance in safety for patients requiring such treatments.
The ability to have tactile awareness with injection provides a significant added safety measure when administering very powerful and potentially dangerous medications. In discussing this issue with our experienced chemotherapy nurses, all felt that this would enhance their ability to treat patients in a significantly safer manner. With chemotherapy medications where even a small administration error can produce significant side effects, this would provide an immeasurable added safety benefit.
I believe the use of syringes with tactile awareness, the risk of drug administration errors can be significantly reduced.
