Re: Sensiject® Feedback Syringe
I was recently introduced to the Sensiject® syringe. I was immediately impressed with the simplicity and efficiency of its design. After spending some time with this product, I strongly believe that it can be applied to virtually every medical specialty. However, I am also of the opinion that this product has applications in general medicine and of course in pediatrics, in daily tasks of vaccines and medication administration.
There are three major and immediate benefits of the syringe. The first is improved accuracy in dosing, the second is improved safety and the third is cost reduction.
As the syringe is specifically designed as a multi-dose instrument, using it will result in much greater accuracy and overall consistency in the delivery of medicine. This ease of use, guaranteed accuracy and immediate feedback system will make nurses and home care providers more comfortable in administering medicine.
There are a growing number of children or their parents that are responsible for administering injections in their home environment. The use of this product will help to ensure patient safety when being cared for by those without medical training.
There are obvious cost reductions as there will be lessening of the need to flush medications in the barrel of a standard syringe. Additionally, there will be less waste during the fluid withdrawal process from multi-dose vials. The feedback mechanisms will serve as the necessary indication of successful withdrawal and delivery, rather than a need to visually approximate dosage based on the graduations of the barrel.
I am certain that this device will have a great impact on the near term application of medicine.
Sincerely,
Alexander Benitt, M.D.
